Job Summary
Trust Hands is hiring compassionate and dependable Home Care Support Workers to provide non-medical in-home support for children with special needs. This role focuses on safety, routine support, personal care assistance, companionship, and helping children participate in daily activities at home and in the community.
You will work closely with families to support each child’s unique needs, strengths, and communication style. The ideal candidate is patient, respectful, emotionally mature, and confident working with children who may require structured routines, sensory support, mobility assistance, or behavioural guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Child Centered Daily Support
- Fluent in Farsi ( Persian ) and English Speaking
- Provide one-on-one support to children with special needs in the home environment.
- Assist with daily routines such as getting ready, hygiene support, dressing, and mealtime routines.
- Support safe play, learning activities, and age-appropriate engagement.
- Encourage independence through positive guidance and a consistent routine
- Assist with toileting routines and diaper changes when required
- Support safe feeding and meal assistance based on family instructions
- Assist with mobility and transfers as needed (as trained and within comfort level)
- Maintain a calm and supportive presence during emotional distress or overstimulation
Behavioral and Sensory Support
- Follow family approved strategies for emotional regulation and behavior support
- Support children with sensory needs using calming techniques and structured activities
- Use patience and positive reinforcement to guide appropriate behavior
- Monitor triggers and support de escalation with respectful communication
Safety and Supervision
- Maintain constant awareness and supervision to ensure child safety
- Identify risks in the home and reduce hazards proactively
- Follow safe routines for outings, transitions, and community participation
- Report concerns promptly to the family and Trust Hands supervisor
Communication and Documentation
- Communicate respectfully and clearly with parents or guardians
- Provide updates about the child’s activities, mood, and routine completion
- Document care tasks completed and important observations as required
- Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy at all times
Home Support Related to the Child
- Light housekeeping related to the child such as tidying play areas, laundry, and cleaning up after meals
- Prepare simple snacks or meals for the child based on family preferences
- Organize activity areas to support structure and safety
Qualifications and Credentials
Required
- Experience working with children, youth, or families in a caregiving, support, education, or childcare setting
- Strong understanding of child safety, supervision, and respectful boundaries
- Patience, emotional maturity, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to follow instructions and care routines consistently
- Clear communication skills in English
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, and assisting with light lifting when required
Preferred
- Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, developmental delays, Down syndrome, or sensory processing needs
- Early Childhood Education Assistant background
- Community Support Worker experience
- Experience with behavioral support strategies and routine based care
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Background Checks and Compliance
Successful candidates must be able to provide:
- Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector screening
- Two professional references
- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada
